If you are pregnant with twins, the birth is carefully planned with a doctor. Half of all twin births are by caesarean section, and the other half are vaginal births.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It may seem like an eternity away, but the end is approaching! The last trimester is here and at the end of this period you will finally meet your little babies. One consolation for those expecting twins is that you often don't go beyond week 38+0. But it's good to be aware that twins often choose to come out earlier than that, 50 % are born before week 37+0.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1879\" data-end=\"1914\">Planning for the birth of twins<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1916\" data-end=\"2086\">During the last trimester, you will see a doctor who will plan your birth.<br data-start=\"1992\" data-end=\"1995\" \/>The decision on <strong data-start=\"2007\" data-end=\"2030\">vaginal delivery<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"2037\" data-end=\"2061\">planned caesarean section<\/strong> depends on several factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"2090\" data-end=\"2126\">The twins <strong data-start=\"2104\" data-end=\"2124\">position in the uterus<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2090\" data-end=\"2126\">If you are <strong data-start=\"2135\" data-end=\"2157\">had a child earlier<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2090\" data-end=\"2126\">Results from <strong data-start=\"2176\" data-end=\"2200\">ultrasound controls<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2090\" data-end=\"2126\">Children's <strong data-start=\"2213\" data-end=\"2243\">how you feel before giving birth<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2245\" data-end=\"2330\">About half of twin deliveries are vaginal and half by caesarean section.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2337\" data-end=\"2369\">Vaginal twin birth<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2371\" data-end=\"2628\">If a vaginal birth is planned, the <strong data-start=\"2413\" data-end=\"2430\">the opening phase<\/strong> similar to a normal childbirth.<br data-start=\"2472\" data-end=\"2475\" \/>At the birth center, a <strong data-start=\"2499\" data-end=\"2532\">midwife and assistant nurse<\/strong> care for you in the beginning, and the babies <strong data-start=\"2568\" data-end=\"2589\">monitored by CTG<\/strong> to check the heart rate.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2630\" data-end=\"2720\">When it is time for the first baby to be born, the delivery team is expanded. They are often present:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"2724\" data-end=\"2741\">Two midwives<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2724\" data-end=\"2741\">One to two obstetricians<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2724\" data-end=\"2741\">A pediatrician<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2724\" data-end=\"2741\">Two assistant nurses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2820\" data-end=\"3058\">After the first twin is born, the doctor or midwife will help guide the second baby into the correct position. The baby's position is often checked with <strong data-start=\"2981\" data-end=\"2994\">ultrasound<\/strong>, and the uterus can rest for a while before labor starts again. If the second baby is not feeling well or if the labor is prolonged, the delivery can be terminated with <strong data-start=\"3155\" data-end=\"3192\">suction bell, forceps or caesarean section<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3200\" data-end=\"3238\">Caesarean section for twin births<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3240\" data-end=\"3333\">A caesarean section can be <strong data-start=\"3265\" data-end=\"3277\">planned<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"3279\" data-end=\"3287\">acute<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"3294\" data-end=\"3308\">immediately<\/strong> depending on the situation.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3335\" data-end=\"3361\">Planned caesarean section<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3362\" data-end=\"3632\">In the case of a planned caesarean section, you will be given a predetermined date and will be admitted the same morning. You will be given <strong data-start=\"3458\" data-end=\"3477\">spinal anesthesia<\/strong> and is awake during the operation. A curtain is set up between you and the staff, and a <strong data-start=\"3566\" data-end=\"3581\">urinary catheter<\/strong> is admitted because the bladder is temporarily stunned.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3634\" data-end=\"3682\">The team is larger than in a normal birth:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"3712\">Two midwives per baby<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"3712\">Two assistant nurses<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"3712\">Obstetrician<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"3712\">Pediatrician<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3776\" data-end=\"4006\">When the babies are born, they are welcomed by a midwife and shown to the parents.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3776\" data-end=\"4006\">If they need help, pediatricians are on hand. Afterwards, the surgical incision is sewn up and you are moved to <strong data-start=\"3960\" data-end=\"3972\">the awakening<\/strong> until the feeling in your legs returns.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"4013\" data-end=\"4035\">Acute caesarean section<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4036\" data-end=\"4167\">An emergency caesarean section is performed if the birth needs to be completed more quickly, but there is usually time for brief information and preparation.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"4174\" data-end=\"4202\">Immediate caesarean section<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4203\" data-end=\"4409\">This option is used if the babies or the mother need help quickly.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"4203\" data-end=\"4409\">The parent <strong data-start=\"4290\" data-end=\"4298\">sleepy<\/strong> and receive information only afterwards.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4203\" data-end=\"4409\">This only happens when the situation requires the children to come out immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"4416\" data-end=\"4441\">Important to consider<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4442\" data-end=\"4652\">Although the plan is a <strong data-start=\"4463\" data-end=\"4494\">vaginal twin birth<\/strong>, you should always be prepared that it can be a <strong data-start=\"4546\" data-end=\"4561\">caesarean section<\/strong>.
