    Packing the maternity bag

When should the maternity bag be packed?

It is wise to have most things ready in Week 37.
Most children are born between weeks 37+0 and 41+6, and a ready-made bag reduces stress if the baby arrives earlier than expected.

    • Have your bag ready in week 37.
    • Check what is missing in good time.
    • Make sure that important items such as ID and medication are always packed.

What do you need to pack in your maternity bag?

    Important to include

    • Baby protection: Mandatory on return journey, even if you take a taxi.
    • Wallet and identification
    • Mobile phone chargers
    • Medication, insulin or glucose meter if necessary

If you drive your own car - please make a test drive to childbirth:

    • See where to drive in, park and register.
    • Note how the parking is paid - cash, app or card.

    Clothing and comfort

Pack for both you and your partner:

    • Comfortable clothes, underwear, slippers and toiletry bag
    • Baby change - preferably clothes that are not pulled over the head
    • Blanket (and outerwear if it's cold outside)

If you want to amma: bring a nursing bra and nursing pads.
If you are not to breastfeed: bring a tight sports bra that helps reduce milk production.

    Snacks and energy

Bring snacks and drinks for quick energy during labor.
Keep in mind that many hospitals do not allow nuts.
    Therefore, choose hypoallergenic options.

Most maternity wards have a kiosk, but it's nice to have some in your bag from the start.

Don't forget to pack your prenuptial agreement (see article The birth certificate).

What might be useful to take with you?

Not necessary - but often appreciated:

    • Loudspeakers and downloaded music
    • Extension cord to chargers
    • Wheat pillow or TENS machine if you use it
    • Baby nest or baby sling
    • Lypsyl, hair ties/hairbands and water bottle
    • Soft toilet paper (the hospital can feel hard after childbirth)

What do you not need to pack?

The following are usually available at the maternity ward or maternity hospital:

    • Painkillers
    • Bindor
    • Food and light refreshments
    • Cup for possible alternative feeding
    • Diapers and wipes

Unfortunately, not all hospitals offer diapers and wipes, so call your chosen maternity hospital beforehand or talk to someone you know who has given birth there for information.

Don't forget that a full list of all the products Baby Journey recommends can be found under the "To-do" list in apps.
