Children usually spend a lot of time in their stroller during their first year. Beyond the obvious use (transporting the baby), the stroller is a lifesaver for many parents when it comes to getting the baby to sleep. Whatever the purpose, the bThe importance of rescue to make the stroller a really cozy place and to keep warm! So how do you actually make a good bed according to the season, and how do you make the sitting part verses the lying part?
The basics of making a stroller bed
Young children have difficulty regulating their own temperature, so as a parent, you need to feel your child's skin to determine whether the bedding is too warm or too cold - the easiest way to do this is to feel your child's neck. Let this guide you in making the stroller bed! Layering the stroller is a good way to adjust the temperature if you notice your baby is too hot or cold, so you can easily open up a carrycot, remove or add a blanket if needed.
Making up the stroller: the carrycot
The carrycot has many options when it comes to bedding, which can vary greatly depending on the season. Many people like to use a carrycot from the start, others use blankets and sheets, while some use a sleep carrier that they place in the stroller. If you want, you can also use a small pillow adapted for newborns. Here are some different options depending on the season:
Making up the sleeping area for spring/summer
- Sheepskin blanket that regulates temperature at the bottom with a sheet on top
- Thinner travel bag adapted for spring and summer, or one that works all year round that you can open up
- Sheepskin blanket in combination with a duffel bag works great during a cold spring
- Wool blankets at the bottom that both heat/regulate temperature with a sheet on top
- Combine the options above with a couple of cozy blankets! Preferably airy muslin blankets and grid filters when it's warmest, combined with warmer wool or fleece blankets for colder days. By mixing different blankets, you can easily adapt the bedding to temperature differences
Tips! To make the bassinet a little more cramped and cozy for your baby, you can roll up blankets and lay them along the sides. Newborns often like cramped spaces as they remind them of the environment in their mother's tummy!
Making up the sleeping area for fall/winter
- Sheepskin rugs or wool blankets at the bottom for a soft surface that regulates temperature
- Above, together with a duffel bag for colder days
- Only a warm carrycot/sleeping bag together with cozy blankets of various kinds
- As in summer, you can vary the number of blankets to make the stroller a cozy place and to adapt to the temperature. During fall and winter, fleece, wool and cotton blankets are best, but you can also combine them with muslin blankets
Tips! Always wear overalls, hats and mittens and add mittens for cold days.

Making up the stroller: the seat section
In the sitting area, the conditions for making the bed are different because the child can now sit up and in many cases uses the belt that belongs to the stroller. Making the bed with blankets at the bottom is therefore no longer optimal, instead you need to make the bed with something that has "built-in" holes for the belt, which many cushions and bags have. You also have a little less space to bed now and need to pack with blankets of various kinds under the stroller or in the associated bag.
Making up the seating area for spring/summer
- Cool sleeping bag or soft cushion at the bottom
- Sheepskin rug adapted for the seat part at the bottom
- Add cooler muslin and grid blankets with cotton and wool blankets for colder days
Tips! Never hang a blanket or similar over the trailer as it stops the air circulation.
Making up the seating area for fall/winter
- Warm travel bag or one that works all year round with a sheepskin rug or warm blankets
- Cozy blankets, preferably in wool or fleece, but cotton and muslin blankets are also good to combine with
Tips! Keep a bag with your stroller where you can pack extra blankets, hats, mittens, etc. That way, you'll always be ready in case of temperature differences.
Summary: Keep an eye on your baby's temperature, keep blankets close at hand, layer up and dress your baby in layers too, and you'll be on the right track when it comes to making up the stroller. A carrycot can work all year round except possibly on hot summer days!
