During pregnancy

During pregnancy, issues around medicines can feel particularly important. Alvedon can be used during pregnancy, but as with all medicines, it should only be used when needed and at the recommended dose. Always consult your midwife, doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. This is especially true for prolonged use or recurring symptoms.

Infancy

During infancy, fever may occur, for example, due to infections or after a vaccination. Alvedon can also be used in young children, but the dosage is always based on the child's weight and it is important to follow the instructions in the package leaflet.

In the case of fever in children under three months of age, healthcare professionals should always be contacted before starting treatment. For children over three months, Alvedon can be used for fever or temporary pain according to the package leaflet.

For babies and young children, Alvedon suppositories (suppositories, as they are commonly known) are often used. These are particularly useful when babies have difficulty swallowing or are vomiting, but are generally the most common option for younger babies who are still breastfeeding or drinking formula.

Young children (1-5 years)

During the toddler years, there are several Alvedon options to choose from. Oral suspension is a common form as it is adapted for children who cannot yet swallow tablets but are big enough to drink and preferably avoid suppositories. Oral suspension is given with a dosing syringe to facilitate correct dosing.

Alvedon oral suspension can be used for fever and temporary pain according to the package leaflet.

These are the different variants of Alvedon for children:

Suppositories (suppositories)

Alvedon suppositories are a rectal form and can be an alternative when oral medicine is difficult to give, for example if the child is vomiting or has difficulty taking medicine by mouth.

Suppositories are available in different strengths depending on the weight of the child:

60 mg of - for children around 5-10 kg (from 3 months to 1 year)

125 mg of - for children around 10-15 kg (approximately 1-3 years)

250 mg of - for children around 15-40 kg (approximately 3-12 years)

Alvedon oral suspension 24 mg/ml

Alvedon oral suspension is a liquid form given by syringe, making it easy to adjust the dose to the child's weight. Oral suspension is often used for fever and occasional pain when the child can take medicine by mouth, but cannot yet swallow tablets.

It can be used from 5 kg (from 3 months and up).

Orodispersible tablet 250 mg

When the child is older and can take a tablet, Alvedon Orodispersible tablet may be an alternative. It melts on the tongue without water and is suitable for children weighing around 15-40 kg (approximately 3-12 years).

As children get older

Alvedon is available in several strengths and forms to suit both children and adults. Pediatric products are often intended for children up to about 40 kg, which usually corresponds to school age, but may vary between children.

Alvedon is a medicine and should always be used according to the package leaflet or as advised by a healthcare professional. Contact your healthcare professional if symptoms persist, worsen or if you are unsure about treatment. In case of fever in children under three months, always contact your healthcare professional.

Alvedon are pain-relieving and antipyretic medicines containing paracetamol. Products: Alvedon 250 mg orodispersible tablet; Alvedon 24 mg/ml oral solution; Alvedon 24 mg/ml oral suspension; Alvedon 60 mg, 125 mg and 250 mg suppositories. Doses higher than those recommended carry the risk of very serious liver damage. A doctor should be contacted if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 3 days for fever and 5 days for pain.
