Pregnant Week 29 | You are in your third trimester

In this article you will be able to read about everything related to being pregnant in week 29. You will find information about the baby's development, how the mother's body is changing and tips you may need along the way. At 29 weeks pregnant, the fetus is the size of a butternut squash.

Baby: Milk teeth are starting to form

The fetus is about 40 cm long and weighs about 1.2 kg!

How is the baby in the womb?

Already now, many fetuses lie 'upright' for delivery, i.e. head down in the birth canal. However, it is still possible for the baby to move around and lie on its side or with its tail down. Around week 37, the aim is for the baby to be in the head-down position, so if the baby hasn't done this yet, there is still time for the baby to lie down. As long as there is room for the baby to turn and they like to be in different positions or facing different directions, they will do so.

Developments in week 29

The child's sense of taste and smell has developed and the child can now distinguish between different tastes in a much more developed way. The brain is so developed in this week that it can better regulate the baby's breathing and body temperature. Milk teeth are now forming in the mouth. The baby's eyebrows and eyelashes have grown, and the baby alternates between having its eyes open and closed. However, if you look with an ultrasound, it usually appears to have its eyes closed! Maybe because there is not much to look at?

Mom: Pregnant in week 29

You are now in the third and final (!) trimester. BF is fast approaching!

Your uterus is getting big enough to affect the way your body feels and moves. Many pregnant women may find that the uterus puts uncomfortable pressure on their ribs and lungs. Try changing your position from sitting to standing, squatting with your knees bent outwards or standing on all fours to relieve the pressure on your ribs for a while.

Movement in the third trimester

The third trimester can be tough, we know. If you have the energy, it's a good idea to try and keep active as it can have a positive effect on your mental wellbeing. However, avoid strenuous exercise if you're not used to it - your body will tell you if it thinks it's too hard!

Your abdominal muscles on the side of your stomach are not close together anymore, so things that you used to be able to do using the power of your abdominal muscles can be difficult to find the strength for. For example, when you sit up from lying down, it is good to take support from an arm. Feel free to turn to the side before sitting up to get better strength and relieve the body.

Both the upper and lower abdomen are increasingly tipping forward, so if you already do some form of mobility training, it's good to keep it up! And remember to adjust your posture after you've been sitting or standing for a while to prevent body pain.
