Get 10 % more when on parental leave
Sponsored by Agreed
Have you started to think about what your finances will look like when you are on parental leave? You probably know that you can get parental benefit from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, but did you know that you can also get extra benefits through your job if you have a collective agreement? We'll explain how.
There are a lot of things to organize and plan when BF is approaching. A pram needs to be bought, a birth certificate needs to be written and parental leave needs to be planned. For many, the issue of finances during parental leave feels like a slightly loaded topic. It is not uncommon to feel some anxiety about how to make ends meet when one of your salaries is suddenly replaced by parental allowance. But there may actually be more money to be made.
What is parental allowance supplement?
The parental allowance supplement, or FPT, is an insurance included in the collective agreement for workers in private companies. It can give you 10 % more when you are on parental leave, in addition to the parental benefit from the Social Insurance Agency. If you take full parental benefit, this means that you can receive a total of up to 90 % of your normal salary. This can make quite a big difference to your everyday finances.
Are you entitled to compensation?
If you work for a company with a collective agreement and have been employed for at least 12 months before the birth of your child, you are entitled to an extra allowance for up to 60 days. If you have been employed for at least 24 months, you are entitled to benefits for up to 180 days. If you are a worker, you need to apply yourself, and you can do this as soon as you receive your first payment of parental benefit from Försäkringskassan.
Many people miss out on money they are entitled to
Many people barely know that they have a collective agreement, let alone that it includes insurance. This is why many fail to apply for benefits. Our tip is to find out now what applies to you, so that you are prepared when the child is here and it is time to apply.
It can apply to your partner too
If your partner is also going on parental leave, it is worth checking whether they are also entitled to the allowance. In the long run, it can make a real difference to your family's overall finances during the early years.
