What does baby poo look like?

Baby poop. A real favorite topic among new parents. Because what comes out the back can reveal a lot about how your baby is actually doing.

What does the baby's poop look like, and what color should the poop not be?

Normal infant poop is yellowish-brown, fairly loose with a little bit of a cottage cheese-like appearance. The color can vary, partly because of what the baby has eaten and partly because of a viral infection. Anything from green to relatively light-colored poop can be normal in these conditions. If the child has a cold, the color may also vary and the poop may be more slimy.

As we described earlier, fresh blood in the stool may be due to a reaction to cow's milk and should not cause concern about malignant diseases.

The poop should not be black (this may indicate problems in the upper parts of the stomach and intestines) . It should also not be completely discolored continuously.

If the child has constipation problems, the poop may be more hard and dry, like 'rabbit droppings'. Sometimes you may also see fresh streaks of blood associated with the poop, which may be caused by small cracks in the lower part of the rectum.
