Pregnancy allowance means you are entitled to compensation if you need to stay home from work for any reason during your pregnancy.

If you have a physically demanding job, you can receive pregnancy allowance from 60 days before the expected date of delivery. If you are self-employed, you cannot certify that you are not can work because of risks in the work environment, but it must be a health and safety specialist decide.

The employer should primarily try to redeploy and/or adapt the pregnant woman's work tasks, but in professions that do not allow for working from home, it is now possible to receive compensation during the time the pregnant woman is forced to stay at home. The compensation you receive is just under 80% of your salary, and a maximum of SEK 759 per day.

If your employer is unable to redeploy you or adapt your duties by, for example, allowing you to work from home, the employer can prohibit you from working. If you are banned from working because of the risks in the work environment, you can receive compensation in the form of pregnancy allowance from the date the ban starts.

Then you are entitled to a pregnancy allowance:

- Has a physically demanding job or if there are other risks in the work environment.
- If the employer cannot reassign you to a lighter or less risky job.
- Loss of income from work. You can receive pregnancy allowance at 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%.
- Are insured in Sweden. Which you usually are if you live or work here.
