Concrete situations where your pregnancy insurance can help you

Sponsored by Länsförsäkringar

It can be difficult to know exactly what pregnancy insurance can help with and what it covers. Clear examples of why you should take out pregnancy insurance can help you understand what it can do for you - and that's exactly what we'll help you with in two examples below!

Pregnancy insurance is a policy that you only need for a few months of your life, but which can make a big difference to you if something unforeseen happens. Financial security and support is one of the things your pregnancy insurance helps you with - but when is it? Below we have highlighted two examples where Länsförsäkringar's Pregnancy insurance comes in and helps with financial compensation.

It's easy to think "that won't happen to me" - but anyone can get hurt and insurance is there to help.

Example 1: Preeclampsia

At the MVC, a mother-to-be is found to have high blood pressure in her eighth month and is sent to hospital. She is admitted because she has preeclampsia. As a result, she has to undergo an emergency caesarean section after 4 days. The baby is born prematurely and they have to stay in the neonatal unit.

This is how much is paid out:

The compensation is tax-free and amounts to a total of 17 300 kr

  • Compensation for pre-eclampsia 3 000 kr
  • Hospitalization of mother 4 days 800 kr
  • Acute caesarean section 1 500 kr
  • Hospitalization of children 60 days 12 000 kr

If the mother had only Pregnant Free, none of the above would have been covered.

Example 2: A child born with a diagnosis

The routine ultrasound reveals a high risk that the unborn child may have a congenital disease. The baby is born with a diagnosis of Down syndrome. As the mother had taken out and paid for pregnancy insurance before the routine ultrasound was performed, they could receive reimbursement for the diagnosis. The reimbursement is tax-free.

This is how much is paid out:

Down syndrome compensation 50 000 kr

If the mother had only Pregnant Free, the above would not have been covered.

This is how Länsförsäkringar arrives at each compensation amount:

The amount of compensation varies depending on the nature of the incident. You can find out about the different levels of compensation and the exact amounts at Länsförsäkringar.

The assessment process to determine an exact compensation is usually as follows:

  • The adjuster usually collects medical records from healthcare providers and then makes an assessment based on whether the incident is compensable.
  • In the case of claims where fixed amounts apply, an assessment is made as to whether the claim meets the requirements of the policy conditions before a payment is made.
  • For injuries covered by medical disability, a decision on compensation can only be made once the degree of medical disability can be established.
