13 ways to take care of yourself during pregnancy
Taking care of yourself shouldn't be on a to-do list or a big project. It's the little things that you do with care that make the biggest difference to your wellbeing! So here are 13 tips on small things you can do to take care of yourself during your pregnancy.
1. Take a power nap in the middle of the day
During pregnancy, energy levels tend to dip, especially in the first and third trimesters. Try to accept that you need more rest now than you're probably used to and treat yourself to a midday power nap. You deserve it!
2. take magnesium supplements
Magnesium is a mineral that helps muscles and joints relax, and reduces tiredness and fatigue. If you feel extra tired during pregnancy or if you experience cramps in your calves, supplementing with magnesium can help you feel more energized and relaxed.
3. Invest in a pregnancy pillow
Any form of recovery will do you good during pregnancy. A pregnancy pillow provides soft support for your stomach, pelvis and knees and relieves these areas in a very comfortable way.
4. Watch your favorite show
Sometimes that pile of laundry or mountain of dishes can just be left alone, right? Instead, settle down and enjoy an episode (or several!) of your favorite series. If a potential partner has got hold of the remote control, it's time to pull the "I'm pregnant, so I get to choose" card.
5. Take a hot bath
Soaking in a bathtub filled with perfectly warm water is like giving yourself a giant hug. That's because heat releases endorphins, which relieve pain and help the body relax.
6. Snuggle up on the couch
You don't need any equipment, not even exercise clothes, to do squats. And it's something you can do anywhere, anytime! Squats are a great way to start during pregnancy, to help your body recover after giving birth. Make it a cozier time by doing your squats on the couch or in front of your favorite movie at home, and after 15 minutes when you're done, give yourself a big, warming cup of tea.
7. Lubricate yourself with pregnancy oil
Applying an emollient oil to your skin is wonderful at any stage of life, but possibly a little more so during pregnancy. As well as making your skin smooth and moisturized, you're helping to boost blood flow throughout your body. This can be particularly beneficial if you experience swelling! Rubbing your belly is also a cozy little moment with your baby growing inside.

8. Book a pregnancy massage
On the subject of massages, why not book a pregnancy massage? Make sure you take time for yourself before your focus turns to your little person. If you have a wellness allowance through your job, you can take advantage of it for the massage, before it's time for parental leave.
9. Give yourself a hug
Suddenly, some of the focus wanders from you to the baby in your belly, so here's a reminder to be kind and hug yourself when you need it. Sometimes all you need is something as simple as a pat or a hug.
10. Take care of your feet
Your feet and legs suddenly carry a few extra pounds and tend to swell during pregnancy. Give them some love by taking a foot bath and gently lubricating your feet. Then lie down with your legs elevated to help reduce swelling and relieve pressure on your legs. If you're in a lot of pain, a magnesium spray can help to spray on your calves!
11. cook, or ask someone who loves you to cook your favorite food!
When pregnant, most people have cravings at times. It can be anything from sour apples to roasted sandwiches. Take care of yourself by cooking your favorite food and eating it with a favorite show, person or music in mind! Food is love, so if you can't cook for yourself, maybe someone close to you can give it to you right now?
12. Ask for a massage
Do you have a partner, friend or family member who wants you to feel as good as possible? Great! Ask them to give you a massage where you feel sore or stiff. In fact, touch (both for the person receiving and the person giving the massage) releases oxytocin, also known as the love hormone. Cozy, isn't it?
13. you are pregnant! Lower your collar.
With the arrival of your little person in the world, you are faced with so many new things, so it's a good idea to start lowering your expectations of yourself during pregnancy. Is there anything that you can de-prioritize right now to feel better or more harmonious? Do it!
Every little thing you do for your own well-being is also a gift to life growing within you. Be proud of all the love you give yourself and your future child.
